Celebrity supercouple David and Victoria Beckham are moving to America – the soccer star has agreed to sign for Major League team Los Angeles Galaxy with a reputed salary of $1m a week.
Beckham, 31, will leave Spanish club Read Madrid at the end of the current season and sign a five year deal with the California side in the summer.
The former England captain’s future has been in doubt since Real Madrid manager Fabio Capello made it clear Beckham was not part of his plans for the team. The player and wife Victoria have meanwhile spent an increasing amount of time in LA, latterly househunting – prompting rumours of a move.
After agreeing a deal to spend the twilight years of his career in the sunshine of California, Beckham today said, “This week Real asked me to make a decision regarding my future and the offer to extend my contract for a further two seasons.
“After considering several options to stay in Madrid or join other major British and European teams, I have decided to join LA Galaxy.”
