Hollywood socialite Candy Spelling has made property history in Los Angeles by paying $47 million for a penthouse in Century City.

The price amounts to $2,848 per square foot – a new record for a Los Angeles condominium.

The old record of $2,700 was set in February, at the same building.

Spelling, the widow of TV mogul Aaron Spelling and the mother of reality TV star Tori Spelling, is planning to move out of Los Angeles County’s largest home once work on her new penthouse at The Century is complete.

The sprawling, six-acre Holmby Hills estate Spelling shared with her late husband features 123 rooms; her new address will be less than a third of the size of her current home, according to the Los Angeles Times newspaper.

But her exclusive new pad comes with a stunning 360-degree view across all of Los Angeles.

The condominium building Spelling will move into is expected to be completed by late 2009.

Spelling’s attorney Stephen Goldberg confirmed the move: “She will be moving into it, though it won’t be up for a year or so.”
