Director and influential political activist Rob Reiner has endorsed Senator Hillary Clinton for the Democratic nomination in the run-up to 2008′s U.S. presidential election.
The Spinal Tap and When Harry Met Sally filmmaker, who campaigned extensively for Democratic presidential candidate Al Gore in 2000, will host a fundraising party for Clinton’s 60th birthday at his home in Brentwood, California on 21 October.
“I’ve been around a long time in the political wars and I’ve been on the front lines of them,” he says. “I’m interested in someone who can really manage those political waters. Every one of the Democratic candidates is strong, but Hillary is head and shoulders above the rest.”
Reiner isn’t the first Jewish director to back Clinton – Steven Spielberg announced his support for the former First Lady in June.
