Leibovitz Snaps The Queen

Annie LeibovitzNew official photographs of British Monarch Queen Elizabeth have been taken by iconic celebrity photographer Annie Leibovitz.

The photos have been taken to mark The Queen’s visit to the United States, her first in 16 years.

One photo of the 81-year-old is out today, another one will be released on Sunday and two additional pics will be unveiled on May 15.

Leibovitz has photographs some of the biggest names in showbiz since thew 1970s when she was chief photographer of Rolling Stone magazine. Among the names who have been in front of her camera have been Kate Winslet, John Lennon and Demi Moore.

The new photos were taken at Buckingham Palace and are said to have been influenced by The Queen’s favourite photographer Cecil Beaton. Beaton took pictures of The Queen in the same room at Buckingham Palace where Leibovitz did her shoot in 1939.

“I like tradition. Cecil Beaton’s pictures – they’re very important to me,” she said. “I feel like it’s documentation and want to take a very simple portrait.”
