Justin BerfieldFormer Malcolm In The Middle star Justin Berfield is suing a Los Angeles construction firm for turning his old home into a mould-infested wreck.

The actor, who now lives in pal Jessica Simpson’s former home in Calabasas, California, claims he suffered respiratory problems while living in the Studio City home.

He is suing Shell Burton Construction over what he says was faulty work the company did on the home, which once belonged to George Clooney.

In a lawsuit, obtained by TMZ.com, Berfield alleges he learned his former home was infested with mould when he tried to sell the house.

Berfield is suing for negligence, breach of warranty and breach of contract, and is asking for damages in excess of $1 million.

It would be nice if Justin, Sandra Bullock, and others who have been HADD by builders and remodelers would speak out loudly and clearly about the need for the construction of safe and sound homes, and legal remedy for families who have been trapped in unsafe homes.

Hundreds of thousands of families across the U.S. have been financially and often physically harmed due to substandard construction. Our elected officials are doing nothing to protect the largest puchase a family ever makes.

Oprah, Larry King, and others should be interviewing our members — what a public service that would be.
