Veteran crooner Neil Diamond will be named MusiCares Person of the Year at the organisation’s 2009 ceremony.

The Sweet Caroline singer is to be lauded for his industry achievements and philanthropy work at a gala dinner and concert held in his honour on 6 February.

The Los Angeles-based music man has a Tuesday night residency at PURE, but he has been unable to make the weekly trip to Sin City since his near-death experience on 19 September (08), which left four people dead. He returned on Tuesday.
