Sacha Baron Cohen has landed a starring role in a new Steven Spielberg movie.
Just a week after Cohen announced he had retired Borat - following the success of 2006 movie Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan - he has been signed to star as 60s hippie satirist Abbie Hoffman in The Trial of the Chicago Seven.

Amy Winehouse’s hit album Back To Black has topped American magazine Maxim’s end-of-year readers album poll.
The release, which was named Britain’s bestselling album of 2007 earlier this month (Dec07), has beaten Radiohead’s In Rainbows and Graduation by Kanye West to top the album list.
Rihanna’s Umbrella was named Best Single ahead of Winehouse’s Rehab, and Radiohead beat the White Stripes to the Best Band title.

Jerry Seinfeld has snubbed the chance to host the Academy Awards - preferring instead to perform for an audience that isn’t racked with nerves.
The American comedian has turned the job down on numerous occasions over fears organisers will keep inviting him back.
But what appeals to him least is the prospect of performing in front of a crowd of Oscar nominees, whose minds are too focused on winning awards to laugh at his jokes.

Singer Billy Joel will premiere his classical composition Waltz No.2 (Steinway Hall) at the Academy of Music when he makes his debut with the Philadelphia Orchestra next month.
Joel will join soprano Disella Larusdottie, pianist Conrad Tao and stage act the Blue Man Group at the event on 26 January to mark the 151st anniversary of the Academy of Music.

British singer Amy Winehouse has been summoned to appear in a Norwegian court - two months after she was arrested and fined in the country.
The Rehab hitmaker, husband Blake Fielder-Civil and her hairdresser were briefly arrested and fined 500 euros for drug use and possession of seven grams of marijuana in the western Norwegian town of Bergen on 18 October.

Legendary Broadway choreographer Michael Kidd has lost his battle with cancer. He was 92.
Kidd died on Sunday at his home in Los Angeles.
Born Milton Greenwald in New York City, Kidd began his career as a dancer at the Big Apple’s Ballet Theater, and was given his first opportunity to choreograph in 1945.

The brothers, who are tipped for Oscar glory next year with their latest film No Country For Old Men, have made films inspired by a number of different genres, from noir, to screwball and even a musical of sorts.
But setting a film in space is one they’ll never try.

Sacha Baron Cohen has ditched his hapless alter-ego Borat following the phenomenal success of movie Borat.
The British comedian scored an international smash hit with the 2006 film, in which his seedy Kazakhstani journalist made fun of unsuspecting members of the American public.
But Cohen has decided to officially retire Borat - because the character is now so well-known, he’ll never fool anybody into believing he’s a real person again.

Former Star War actress Carrie Fisher has sparked rumours of a romance with British author Salman Rushdie, after they were spotted in London enjoying a cosy meal together.
The odd couple recently dined together at posh London restaurant The Ivy - and according to reports, Fisher, 51, couldn’t keep her hands off 60-year-old Rushdie.
The controversial writer is currently in the process of divorcing his wife of three years, model/actress Padma Lakshmi, following their split in July.
