Alpert Donates $30m

Trumpeter Herb Alpert has donated $30 million to pay for a new music school at the University Of California, Los Angeles.

The music mogul gave the money to the university’s Los Angeles campus via his Herb Alpert Foundation.

The UCLA Herb Alpert School Of Music will combine the existing departments of ethnomusicology, music and musicology in the university’s converted Schoenberg Hall.

David GestReality TV star David Gest will take to the stage in a new musical about his life.

Music producer Gest, who found fame in the U.K. after appearing in reality show I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!, is embarking on a 24-date tour of Britain in the new year with his new musical play, David Gest Is Nuts… My Life As A Musical.

Rocker Lenny Kravitz is offering 10 MySpace.com ‘friends’ the chance to join him on his tour bus as part of a new online competition.

The star has 70,000 friends on the social networking site and now all of them have the chance to spend time with the singer/songwriter when he tours next year.

Applicants have until today to enter the competition to win a seat on the tour bus.

Natalie Portman has topped a new style list. The Star Wars actress has been named number one on the InStyle magazine Style 20.

Portman topped the list because “she exhibits unwavering faith in the cut and quality of a great dress.”
