Comedy legend Mel Brooks has started watching his 1974 movie Young Frankenstein in a bid to inspire the forthcoming stage adaptation of the horror musical.

Brooks admits he isn’t totally happy with the show’s ending - just a month before it is due to start previewing in Seattle, Washington - ahead of its opening on New York’s Broadway in November.

The actress has teamed up with Friends creator Marta Kaufmann to create the series, which, like the book, investigates how individuals approach major life changes.

Legendary actress Lauren Bacall has branded modern day celebrities “stupid” insisting they have ruined the industry.

The 82-year-old star - who was once married to Humphrey Bogart - says she only has respect for serious actors and not those that grace the red carpet.

“I love my profession. I have tremendous respect for it. What I don’t have respect for is the red carpet and the celebrity scene,” she says. “It’s become a zoo. It’s so stupid. They ask you stupid questions: ‘What are you wearing?’ Oh, Christ almighty!”

Scarlett JohanssonSexy Hollywood starlet Scarlett Johansson is defending her decision to wear a nose-ring - claiming the jewellery she wears highlights her “creative side”.

The Lost In Translation and Match Point actress, who is currently the face of cosmetics giant L’Oreal, shocked fans by making the decision to get a conk piercing when she was snapped by paparazzi wearing the ring.

“It’s all about my creative side and I personally look lovely,” she says. “So what exactly is the problem with it?”

Adam SandlerComedian Adam Sandler has ended Harry Potter’s spell on the U.S. box-office - his new film I Now Pronounce You Chuck + Larry has debuted at the top of the American movie chart.

The comedy, about two heterosexual men who pretend to be a gay couple, made $34.8 million over the weekend.

After jumping straight in at the top of the chart last week, Harry Potter + The Order Of The Phoenix falls to second place with $32.2 million.

Zac EfronHairspray star Zac Efron is set to step into Kevin Bacon’s dancing shoes for a remake of yet another eighties classic -Footloose.

Efron is reuniting with High School Musical director Kenny Ortega to play streetwise teen Ren McCormack, Moviehole.net reports.

The remake is likely to be expanded from a dance movie to a full blown musical.

While Bacon was in his mid-20s playing McCormack, at 19 Efron is the perfect age.

The family of late rocker Marc Bolan have given their blessing to a Scottish musician who completed unfinished songs by the former T-Rex singer.

Bolan’s son, Rolan has congratulated rocker Alex ‘Midge’ Peebles for turning unfinished 39 pieces of the glam rock band’s music into 15 songs.

The Hot Love vocalist spent six months working on the tracks, and were created to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the T-Rex frontman’s death in September 1977

Veteran actor William Shatner is set to add chat show host to his resume after signing up to interview celebrities for upcoming US TV programme Shatner’s Raw Nerve.

The former Star Trek and T.J. Hooker star will interview fellow actors and politicians on the half-hour show, to air on the Biography Channel.

Television bosses have already lined up 13 episodes of Shatner’s Raw Nerve, to air in 2008.

Uber-producer Rick Rubin is urging Mick Jagger to rethink the release of his Red Devils album - because it’s one of the best projects he has worked on.

Rubin produced Jagger’s supergroup in action in the early 1990s before the recording time became the Rolling Stones star’s 1992 solo album Wandering Spirit.

Jagger shelved the album, dubbed King King, and it has never been released.

The Straight Up singer attended the New York City premiere of new movie Hairspray earlier this week with JT Torregiani.

And during an appearance on U.S. TV’s Today show on Wednesday, a coy Abdul admitted the pair are in a relationship.

Amy Winehouse has confounded British bookmakers by showing up to play a concert on Tuesday, following a string of cancellations.

The Rehab singer called off three recent performances, citing “exhaustion”, and led gambling chain William Hill to offer 1/2 odds on Winehouse appearing at the Eden Project in Cornwall, England on 17 July.

However, Winehouse fulfilled her commitment by playing the gig.

The kosher Harry Potter star, 17, is eight years younger than Portman, but counts her as one of his favourite women.

“Not only is Natalie Portman beautiful, she’s a great actress, too. I think my favourite film of hers is Garden State with Zach Braff,” he says. “It’s unforgettable. When I first saw it, I think I just fell in love with her!”

Singer Michael Bolton and his fiancee Nicollette Sheridan are teaming up to record an album of duets.

The Desperate Housewives star has no previous musical experience, but is venturing into pop after encouragement from Bolton.

“I am such a shy singer but Michael has made me more confident and my voice has grown. We’re planning an album of duets,” she says. “You might think its madness but we like the way our voices blend.”

Actor Zac Efron knew girlfriend Vanessa Hudgens was the lady for him as soon as they met.

The 19-year-old star met 18-year-old Hudgens at the casting for Disney hit movie High School Musical, and admits he instantly fell for his future co-star.

“For all of the partner things, me and Vanessa always got paired up,” he says. “I was like, ‘They’re not trying us with other people.’ For some reason we kept sticking around (for callbacks). I don’t know what it was with Vanessa, but we kind of clicked from the very beginning.”
