The BBC is to introduce a nightly news bulletin at 8pm on BBC One in an attempt to appeal to younger viewers with Natasha Kaplinsky as a front-runner to present it.
The 60 to 90 second bulletin is set to begin in the autumn and will fill a gap between the Six and 10 O’Clock news.

Jazz songstress Amy Winehouse’s father Mitch has hit out at reports of a rift with the singer’s new husband Blake Fielder-Civil.
The singer/songwriter’s dad insists he is pals with his new son-in-law and reports of public fights between the newlyweds are untrue.
Weekend At Bernie’s star Jonathan Silverman has wed US TV actress Jennifer Finnigan after the couple eloped to Greece last month.
The couple quietly wed on 7 June in a cliffside villa on the island of Mykonos.
They plan to host a reception for family and friends in Malibu, California on 28 July, according to In Touch Weekly magazine.
