Jonathan DurdenOne of Big Brother’s Jewish housemates, Jonathan Durden, has left the series suddenly after being told that his grandmother had died.

The 49-year-old millionaire businessman was told the news late on Monday night and left the house half an hour later.

He told his fellow housemates he had had “a blast”.

Durden, who entered the house two and a half weeks ago, has come close to leaving on several occasions.

He was nominated for eviction on his first week in the house and for a long while was the favourite to be voted out, but had a narrow escape when the public chose to boot out Irish housemate Seany instead.

Last week he told the housemates he would be leaving the next day as he missed his family and friends and said he had been selfish coming on to the show in the first place.

However, he changed his mind at the last minute and decided to stay.

The show’s two other kosher contestants - former pop star Zachary ‘Ziggy’ Lichman and peace activist Carole Vincent  - were among those most upset by Jonathan’s departure. Both had become very friendly with him during his time in the house.
