From Borat to the Barbers

From Borat to BarberWith Borat proving to be a massive hit and raking in millions, Sacha Baron Cohen already has his next film lined up - Sweeney Todd, The Demon Barber of Fleet Street.

The former Habonim youth club member will play the role of Signor Adolfo Pirelli in the Tim Burton version of Stephen Sondheim’s Broadway musical.

Burton’s partner and mother of his son Billy Ray, Helena Bonham Carter will play the role of Mrs Lovett.

BoratA behind the scenes look at the making of Sacha Baron Cohen’s Borat movie is set to be part of the DVD release that will be released next year as well as commentary from some of the people set up in the smash hit movie.

According to an insider, Cohen has been asked on a number of occasions how he sets up some of the scenes and bowing to public pressure plans to show them.

u2Rock band U2 have won their battle against former stylist Lola Cashman over ownership of a number of personal belongings they claim she had no right over.

Cashman, 45, had been planning to sell a Stetson hat that she claimed were a gift from the band’s singer but following a Dublin court ruling, Cashman has to return the hat as well as other items including two mugs, a sweatshirt and two photographs.

Jacko Gets Top Shop Tour

Sir Philip GreenRetail billionaire Sir Philip Green has given pop star Michael Jackson his own personal midnight tour of his flagship fashion outlet Top Shop in London’s Oxford Street.

According to reports, Jackson got to know Sir Philip at a dinner party, and expressed an interest in his clothing empire. Sir Philip said: “He was very nice, and an absolute gentleman. He was polite and pleasant, and we got on very well.”

Liza Minnelli performed at a Batmitzvah celebration for the daughter of US hair transplant pioneer Dr Joel Kassimir and waived her usual $250,000 fee.

The 60-year-old performed five songs at Charlotte Kassimir’s coming of age party at New York’s Marquee club on Saturday, which was decorated with pink and white crystals by designer Ed Libby at a cost of $1 million.

Along with his comedy partner David Walliams, he is shortlisted in the People’s Choice Award category as well as Best Stage Comedy.

Esther RantzenVeteran TV presenter and children’s rights campaigner Esther Rantzen has collected her CBE from Buckingham Palace.

Rantzen, 66, who recently fronted the TV show Old Dogs New Tricks with fellow consumer rights campaigner Lynn Faulds Wood, was recognised by the Queen for services to young people.

She received her award from the Prince Of Wales, and described it as “a tremendous honour”.

BoratSacha Baron Cohen’s alter-ego Borat has mocked Hollywood star Mel Gibson for his anti-Semitic behaviour.

Speaking to crowds of fans at the Australian premiere of his blockbuster movie Cultural Learnings for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan, Kazakh television presenter Borat said he hoped his film would win an Oscar for “best anti-Jewish film” but he revealed that he wasn’t sure if he would win against Mel Gibson. He said he faced: “very fierce competition from your Melvin Gibson”.

Borat Still At Number 1

Borat still number 1Sacha Baron Cohen’s comedy Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan took in $29 million (£16 million) at the US box office this weekend to hold on to the top spot for the second week in a row.

The bumper weekend raised its 10-day total to $67.8 million (£38 million).

Meanwhile fellow AOJO Sarah Michelle Gellar’s supernatural thriller The Return opened weakly with $4.8 million (£2.6 million) to take the number eight spot in the film top 10.
