Jew Year’s Honours

Jenny AbramskyThe former head of music on BBC radio is among a number of members of the Jewish community who have been recognised in The Queen’s New Year’s Honours. Jenny Abramsky, who retired from the BBC during the summer, is to be made a Dame.

Abramsky, who joined the BBC in 1969 and worked for them throughout, is now currently the chair of The Heritage Lottery Fund which provides funding for communities to help them look after and celebrate their heritage.

Amy WinehouseTroubled pop star Amy Winehouse and celebrity footballer David Beckham have achieved new public recognition - Winehouse has been voted Britain’s worst female accent, while Beckham becomes Britain’s worst male accent.

The Jewish stars talking voices’ are said to be a major turn off in the celebrity stakes with the Geordie accent and Girls Aloud star Cheryl Cole topping the best female voice and TV stars Ant and Dec topping the best male voice.

An episode of controversial cartoon series South Park has sparked outrage after depicting Hollywood director Steven Spielberg in a rape scene with Harrison Ford.

The show made its season 12 debut on Yom Kippur on Thursday.

In the opening episode, entitled The China Problem, the show’s characters have flashbacks of Indiana Jones star Harrison Ford getting raped by Jewish director Spielberg and his fellow filmmaker George Lucas.

James NesbittCold Feet star James Nesbitt has helped World Jewish Relief’s Manchester Committee raise £104,000 by being a guest a speaker for its second fundraising dinner.

Nesbitt, also known for his popular onscreen advertisements for Yell, spoke of his role as a UNICEF ambassador at the event which took place at Manchester’s Airport Radisson Hotel.

JerusalemTourists in Israel are set to benefit from a new 24 hour telephone hotline to help them with their stay.

The Tourphone initiative from the Israel Ministry of Tourism will provide tourists with information from places to visit to directions as well as help in emergencies.

Tourists can dial the special number *3888 for any telephone and will be informed of the new service upon arrival at Ben Gurion airport.

Troubled star Amy Winehouse has attacked a fan outside her London home - after accusing him of pinching her bottom.

The Rehab hitmaker lashed out at the unidentified male fan as he tried to take a photograph of her on Saturday night.

A source told The Sun: “Amy had her bottom pinched and blamed the fan taking her picture. She just lashed out and clumped him. He laughed it off.”
