Daniel FinkelsteinThe Times associate editor Daniel Finkelstein has won £3,000 by being named winner of the inaugural Chaim Bermant Prize which aims to recognise the best in journalism covering Jewish and Israeli themes.

The prize was established by the Jewish Book Council and the Jewish Chronicle in memory of Bermant who wrote a weekly column for the newspaper for nearly 40 years until his death in 1998.

Hadar ManorAn Israeli musician has made it to the shortlist of 10 in a competition to find the best busker in London.

Hadar Manor, who has been based in London for five years, is looking to be crowned the Queen of the Underground which comes with a £5,000 prize as well as an opportunity to perform a gig for radio station Capital 95.8.

Amy WinehouseTroubled songstress Amy Winehouse is the least likely female that men would like to snog under the mistletoe according to lads channel Nuts TV.

In a survey of 323 Men aged 16-44, Winehouse came top of the poll with 48% of those saying they wouldn’t kiss her, coming second was Victoria Beckham with 24% of the votes.

Stephen FryActor and writer Stephen Fry has been honoured with a Lifetime Achievement award at the British Comedy Awards.

The Jeeves & Wooster star was awarded the special gong at the ceremony in London last night while fellow Jewish star Simon Amstell also scooped an award for Comedy Entertainment Personality for his Nevermind The Buzzcocks TV show.

Amstell who took on the hosting role last year said: “Thanks to Mark Lamarr for leaving!”

Peter HarperWith a diverse cultural background of Jewish mother and black father, US-based Peter Harper celebrates his heritage through his artwork.

The brother of musician Ben Harper, 33-year-old Peter Harper’s work has been snapped up by some of Hollywood’s top stars including Danny Devito and Meg Ryan.

His mother and grandparents opened the Folk Music Center in Claremont, California which has become not just a store but also museum and education resource for anyone interested in folk.

Leeds Gets Jewish Radio

Radio JcomThe UK’s first full-time Jewish community radio station licence has been awarded to Radio Jcom in Leeds.

Ofcom, the organisation which grants permission to broadcast, has given the station an initial five year licence to be on medium wave to the local Jewish community.

It will be based at Leeds’ MAZCC Community Centre and apart from Saturday, will broadcast on-air 24 hours a day, six days a week.
