Hollywood actress Emma Samms, who made a name for herself in the 1980s soap Dynasty, is taking a short career break and trying her hand as a hairdresser.
The 46-year-old, born Emma Samuelson, is helping raise money for the BBC’s Children In Need Appeal, in the reality show Celebrity Scissorhands, until November 17. So far , viewers have seen her provide manicure services to a pierced punk with studs in his head.
In the early 1980s, Samms founded Starlight Children’s Foundation, which grants wishes to seriously and terminally ill children, and helps over a million children annually around the world. Her charity work has also included supporting Great Ormond Street Hospital.
She has also been a regular in the US soap General Hospital, as well as appearing late last year on the BBC One show Doctors.
The daughter of Michael Samuelson, who owned Britain’s biggest film equipment rental company, Samms comes from a showbiz family – her grandfather was a silent film producer, while her cousin is film producer Peter Samuelson.
She once said, “I must be the first Jewish girl in history turned down for work because my nose was too small.”
