Comedian Jerry Seinfeld narrowly escaped serious injury when the brakes on one of his classic cars failed during a drive in New York.
The star was cruising along in his 1967 Fiat BTMÂ last Saturday when the brakes stopped working, causing the 53-year-old to swerve the vehicle to avoid the busy Montauk Highway, which in turn resulted in the car flipping over, but just stopping short of the intersection.
Todd Sarris, East Hampton Town Police Chief, praised Seinfeld for his behaviour, insisting the manoeuvre “probably avoided a very serious accident.”
Seinfeld did not require medical attention, and the accident was attributed to a mechanical failure.
His wife Jessica told the New York Post: “He was a little shocked when he walked in and it started to dawn on him what happened.”
Seinfeld aded: “Because I know there are kids out there, I want to make sure they all know that driving without braking is not something I recommend, unless you have professional clown training or a comedy background, as I do. It is not something I plan to make a habit of.”
