Music promoter Harvey Goldsmith has slammed ticket websites for “ripping off” concert-goers, and taking away profits from artists.
Goldsmith, who organised this week’s Led Zeppelin reunion, insists sites such as Viagogo.com and Seatwave.com - which match buyers and sellers of tickets for major events with prices reflecting the levels of demand - are exploiting consumers.
He says: “It’s unscrupulous, illegitimate and a total rip-off. We take the risks and put on gigs, and try to make tickets affordable, and then these people fleece the punter for massive profits. It’s illegal profiteering and it should be made illegal, full stop. Music is not a commodity.”
