Actor Joaquin Phoenix lied about training with the fire academy to prepare for a role, because it “would sound good” to the press.
The Walk The Line star told the the fib to reporters while promoting 2004’s Ladder 49, reports gossip column Page Six.
“I just said that because I thought it would sound good to the press,” he says. “I never prepare. I think that’s completely overrated. It’s a very simple job. All you have to do is… stand in the right spot and say the line. So I don’t really believe in preparation.”
