Legendary Fonz actor Henry Winkler received a rapturous response when he appeared on Channel 4 chat show The Paul O-Grady Show.
Guest host Melanie Sykes interviewed the star who is in London for his panto debut in Peter Pan.
Since arriving in the UK, the 61-year-old revealed his love for the country. “People are so lovely” he said. “They stop me in the street.” He also said that he does his supermarket shopping at Sainsbury’s and had people recognise him in the aisles.
Prior to arriving in the UK, Winkler said he wasn’t aware of panto. “I didn’t know what panto was, I then discovered it was freefall comedy.”
With a successful acting career behind him, Winkler also revealed his learning difficulties.
“I am dyslexic, I am in the bottom 3% of America academically. I found out when my stepson was being tested.”
To help others, Winkler along with co-author Lin Oliver have created Hank Zipzer, a book character who is The World’s Greatest Underachiever.
“We have written 11 novels. It’s about me in the fourth and fifth grade. I was contracted for four and we will now do 16.”
Despite his success, Winkler added: “Reading is hard, still today. I have ad-libbed my life.”
