Israeli touristĀ chiefs are hoping to gain permission from pop group Duran Duran to use an obscure song recorded by them to use as the background music for an advertising campaign to promote Tel Aviv.

Instrumental tune Tel Aviv, recorded by Duran in 1981 and released as part of the group’s debut album, is being considered as a potential song that tourist bosses would like to see used to help promote Israel’s club capital.

Lead singer Simon LeBon is no stranger to Israel. In the late 70s, before he went to university, he spent some time working on a kibbutz which is said to have inspired him to write Tel Aviv. “I have an affection for the country,” le Bon has commented.

“We are looking at different songs to go with a number of advertising campaigns we are planning for 2008,” said an tourist insider. “Tel Aviv is one suggestion and we think it would fit in with the style and direction of an advertisement.”
