BBC political editor Nick Robinson has revealed that his mother’s family were Jewish refugees from Nazi Germany. “Though my father was CoE, my mother was the child of German-Jewish refugees. I didn’t know this until I was secondary-school age,” he told The Jewish Chronicle.
According to 44-year-old Robinson, the family headed to the Far East before settling in the UK. “(they) went first to Shanghai and then, when the Communists came, to Japan.”
His mother met his father while they were both studying abroad and then came to live in the north of England.
With a story to be told about how his family ended up in China and Japan, Robinson is keen to explore it more.
“I would love to spend some time researching that. Whether it’s a book, I don’t know, but producers of Who Do You Think You Are?, please call me,” he says.
