Mercury Prize Jewish winner

Steffan HalperinDrummer Steffan Halperin is celebrating after his band The Klaxons scooped the prestigious Nationwide Mercury Prize for their album Myths Of The Near Future.

The 22-year-old Jewish musician only officially joined the band earlier this year following a former drummer leaving, though he did appear in early Klaxons videos and was previously the band’s live drummer.

The band have also been nominated for several top prizes at this year’s MTV Europe Awards, as well as the BT Digital Awards.

Other nominees for the Mercury Prize included Amy Winehouse for her chart-topping album Back To Black. The troubled singer performed live at the ceremony.
