Dustin HoffmanVeteran actor Dustin Hoffman is to direct his first movie, 30 years after his last attempt at filmmaking led to him firing himself.

Hoffman was the original director of the 1978 film Straight Time, in which he also starred, but became so disenfranchised with simultaneously acting and directing, he handed over the movie’s reins to Ulu Grosbard.

He recalls: “I tried to direct Straight Time. I fired myself.”

However, Hoffman is now ready to step behind the camera again for Personal Injuries, about a personal injury lawyer.

This time, the 69-year-old - who will also star in, produce and co-write the script for the film - has been taking advice from some famous friends.

He adds: “Warren Beatty told me, ‘Don’t wait until the script is perfect or you will never start shooting.”
