More Dirty Dancing In London

Dirty Dancing The MusicalThe London stage production of the smash 1980s movie Dirty Dancing has proved such a hit that producers are extending its run until at least March 2008.

The show, which opened in October at the Aldwych Theatre was set to finish in October 2007.

Such is the popularity of Dirty Dancing, the show was sold out for its first two months six months before it even opened.

Set in 1963, the musical, like the film which starred Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey is written by Eleanor Bergstein and is loosely based on her life and the dancing competitions she grew up with.

It tells the story of a young Jewish woman who goes to a vacation retreat in the Catskills with her mother and father and falls for an older goyish dancing instructor much to her parents shock.

And with a sub-plot running through it, Dirty Dancing which mixes romance and coming of age together, became one of the most popular films of all time. The original film cost $6m to make but has now made over $200m and the soundtrack album has equally proved popular selling millions.
