For many years now, Jewish musician Craig Taubman has been on a drive to get more Jewish music out, from his own material through to compilation albums featuring other artists, Taubman has been one of the most widely recorded musicians around.
And now, through a deal with Fontana distribution, a division of Universal Music Group, Taubman’s latest album The Shabbat Lounge is gaining wide distribution across retailers in the States including Virgin Megastores and Borders.
Following on from other releases in the Lounge series including Passover Lounge and Chanukah Lounge, Shabbat Lounge continues the theme of redefining traditional Jewish music and making it accessible to all.
Tracks include Dror Yikra, Tzur Mishelo, Boi Kalah, L’cha Dodi and Shalom Alechem.
“I wanted to make the classic Shabbat songs relevant for a generation that might not necessarily spend Friday night in a synagogue,” Taubman says.
And indeed, he’s created an album that offers the best that Shabbat music has to offer and made it accessible to all.
