Movie mogul Harvey Weinstein has confirmed reports he is protecting Michael Moore’s latest movie Sicko from U.S. authorities.
The Oscar-winner’s latest documentary is an expose on the U.S. health care system and allegedly features a segment where Moore takes a group of former Ground Zero relief workers on a trip to Cuba.
Communist Cuba is under a trade embargo from the U.S. and most Americans are banned from travelling to the Caribbean island.
Moore is currently under investigation by The Treasury Department’s Office Of Foreign Assets Control for allegedly violating the country’s trade embargo.
Weinstein, whose firm The Weinstein Company is producing Sicko, says the film has been being kept out of the US until its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival on Saturday.
“We are doing everything in our power to ensure that it premieres in its entirety on Saturday night in Cannes,” says Weinstein.
Moore has recently written to the Treasury, accusing U.S. President George W. Bush’s administration of investigating him for political reasons.
