BoratSacha Baron Cohen’s alter-ego Borat has mocked Hollywood star Mel Gibson for his anti-Semitic behaviour.

Speaking to crowds of fans at the Australian premiere of his blockbuster movie Cultural Learnings for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan, Kazakh television presenter Borat said he hoped his film would win an Oscar for “best anti-Jewish film” but he revealed that he wasn’t sure if he would win against Mel Gibson. He said he faced: “very fierce competition from your Melvin Gibson”.

Meanwhile, Borat emphasised his outspoken views on Jews. When asked by Australian journalists what he thought about Jewish people being offended by his movie, he said: “Thank you very much.”

He further vented: “Jews are very crafty. They pretend to like you, then they swipe you with the claws.”

Despite Borat’s comments, local Aussie Jews are set to turn out in force to watch the film.

“I think it’ll go down pretty well,” said Dan Goldberg from Australian Jewish News. “The Anti Defamation League in New York has given the film its blessing, albeit with a caution, and I think Jews are imbued with humour, and this is the ultimate in humour. So I think it will go down well.”
