Download favourite Ross Copperman has revealed what life was like growing up as a Jew in the famous Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia.
He says: “We only had one black kid in our school - it was that kind of town. They didn’t know anything about it (Judaism) so they’d try and convert you to Christianity by telling you ‘You’re going to hell because you’re Jewish.’ It was bad.”
So bad in fact that Copperman couldn’t go through with his Barmitzvah. “I thought: ‘I can’t do this anymore’.”
The 24-year-old, who releases his debut album Welcome To Reality later this month, has lived in London for over a year. He’s being hailed as the next big thing especially as he managed to become the most popular iTunes single with As I Choke downloaded a record 36,457 times.
The album was mainly recorded with former Robbie Williams musical partner Guy Chambers.
And he has no plans to let the prospect of fame and fortune get to his head.
“I’m confident I won’t change,” he says. “If I was going to do drugs I’d done them by now. I’m going to stay grounded.”
