The London production of Mel Brooks’ long standing “new” musical The Producers may be ending in London on January 6, but the show will go on in the UK.
From 19 February to 12 May, the hit musical moves to north west England by going to Manchester and will star Phoenix Nights’ Peter Kay in the role of gay director Roger DeBris.
Speaking on The Parkinson Show, 33-year-old Kay is thrilled to land the role which will be staged at the Palace Theatre and reveals he has been a fan of it for many years almost to the point of obsession.
“The Producers which has always been my favourite film,” he said. “My big ambition all my life was to turn it into a musical - I even got a geography exercise book and started writing it! And then I got the soundtrack and ordered it at Bolton library and I got the video. I got everything, I loved it to bits.”
