While former Dollar frontman David Van Day is busy trying to launch a new career in politics as a Tory in his home town of Brighton, he could well be counting on the support of the local Jewish community.
It seems that Dollar, who had a string of hits in the late 70s and early to mid 80s, wasn’t just 50cents Jewish with Thereza Bazar, it increasingly looks likely that Van Day made up Dollar as 100cents Jewish.
A look at the archives of the Jewish Chronicle newspaper from April 1975 uncovers the following tidbit about the 1970s pop group Guys n’ Dolls, who featured Van Day and Bazar.
In the editorial it revealed: “Three Jewish youngsters” and referred to Bazar, singer Martine Howard and Van Day, and gave details of their acting and singing backgrounds.
Well, with Michael Levy aka Lord Levy releasing Guys ‘n Dolls records in the 70s when he was running Magnet Records, we should have known!
