Sir Philip GreenRetail tycoon Sir Philip Green has hosted a lavish party to mark his 55th birthday in the Maldives.

According to media reports, it cost the Top Shop and BHs owner anything from £6m to £20m to host and saw upwards of 200 of his pals jetting in to the Indian ocean island and featured pop star George Michael belting out his hits.

Michael is said to have commanded a fee of £750,000 for his set of songs which included Freedom.

Among friends said to have been flown out at the expense of Sir Philip were Express newspapers owner Richard Desmond, Carphone Warehouse boss Charles Dunstone, Formula 1 boss Eddie Jordan and music mogul Simon Cowell.

The president of the Maldives, Maumoon Abdul Gayoom, phoned Sir Philip to wish his him happy birthday and thanked him for holding the celebration in his country.

During the conversation, Sir Phillip is said to have told the president of his love of the country and that it was “the most beautiful place he had ever visited.”.
