Former Happy Days star Henry Winkler is only weeks away from making his stage debut in a British pantomime.
Winkler, 60, who played The Fonz in the long running TV comedy will be starring at the New Wimbledon Theatre in south west London as Captain Hook in Peter Pan.
The star came in as a late replacement to David Hasselhoff who pulled out of the production which starts in early December.
“I’m honoured to be one of the first Americans invited to appear in panto,” he said. “We don’t have panto in America and it sounds unbelievably fun.”
“I love the Peter Pan story and I love Captain Hook,” he added, “He’s a villain but hey, he had his hand bitten off by a crocodile – you have to feel some sympathy for the guy.”
According to a theatre insider, ticket sales are doing well.
“David Hasselhoff would have been a great crowd-puller, but Henry Winkler has been generating much interest especially with parents of children who would remember him from Happy Days in the 1970s and 1980s.”
