Kaye Is Back…..And He’s Lewder Than Ever

Mike StrutterMore than a decade after the BBC allowed Paul Kaye to spoof celebs with his alter ego Dennis Pennis, he’s back with a new character – foul mouth New Yorker Mike Strutter.

The man, who is said to have inspired Sacha Baron Cohen’s mock interviewing style, Kaye was responsible for such moments as asking Hollywood actor Steve Martin why he wasn’t funny any more, and asking singing siren Cher if anyone had ever told her she was beautiful and meant it.

Now he’s working under the Strutter persona. Crueller, ruder and more offensive than Pennis, Strutter goes out on a late-night slot on MTV. Through a series of sketches, the New York character provides his own unique insight into life in Britain, from how to deal with a smoking ban, to unusual hobbies involving sex toys.

His verbal deliveries are punctuated with a constant stream of f**k and c**k references, showing that while Kaye’s Pennis may be resting, he is fully loaded with Strutter, and is not afraid to shock and offend where needed.

Outside of being offensive, Kaye is actually a rather humble family man. He is still married to his Israeli wife Orly, and they have two sons, Yarden and Geffen. An urban legend has it that Kaye named his children after his favourite kosher food brands – Yarden and Geffen. If the couple had had a daughter, Tival was also on the shortlist along with Telma.

Kaye’s film career has had a mixed response. Blackball, which co-starred comedian Johnny Vegas and was about an anarchic bowls champion, failed to make much impact at cinemas, but more recently he starred in the cult club comedy It’s All Gone Pete Tong, which was far better received. Kaye played a DJ who has to deal with going deaf.

He has also had small roles and extra roles in bigger movies, including Woody Allen’s recent film Match Point, and the hit British horror comedy Shaun of The Dead.
