After much waiting, controversial musical, Jerry Springer: The Opera is coming to the States next Spring.
But it’s not Broadway where it will get its debut but rather Springer’s adopted home town of Chicago that will see a stage of Ku Klux Clan members and a man dressed up as an adult baby.
Having won tons of awards since it made it debut in 2002 at the Edinburgh fringe Festival in Scotland, it eventually ended up in London’s West End with former Starsky & Hutch star David Soul taking on the lead role of Springer.
With songs including Chick with a Dick, Montel Cums Dirty and Talk to the Hand, the musical was also filmed for transmission on BBC TV. Prior to its screening, the BBC faced protest from Christian groups who claimed it was blasphemous and over 50,000 people complained.
The Chicago production is set to open at the Bailiwick Repertory Theatre in May 2007 and London-born Springer has said he wishes to get involved in choosing who will play him.
