Amy Winehouse’s father is praying the singer’s husband Blake Fielder-Civil will be sentenced to jail in his upcoming assault case – because it will allow the singer to confront her drug demons on her own.
Fielder-Civil is due in court on 12 November after being accused of assaulting a pub landlord earlier this year.
And Winehouse’s dad, Mitch, is adamant that if Fielder-Civil is jailed, it will allow his daughter time to reflect on her troubled life and sort out her drug addiction once and for all.
He says: “If Blake were to go to jail for G.B.H. (grievous bodily harm) it would probably be the best thing that could happen for Amy. It would give her a chance to recover and we could get her into rehab. She’s got a long way to go in her recovery. She knows she’s still got lots to sort out in her head. If he were in jail for a few months I think Amy would have a better chance of recovering. She needs to get herself sorted before she worries about him.”
He added: “She’d be mortified if he did go to jail, but it would be a real chance for her to get on the straight and narrow.”
Winehouse was hospitalised for a drug overdose in August and was recently arrested in Norway for possession of marijuana – but she has vowed not to go into rehab without her husband by her side.
