Amy Winehouse’s father is furious with his ex-wife for suggesting the singer has been abandoned by her family in her time of need – insisting he has been by the star’s side throughout her recent ordeal.
The Rehab hitmaker sparked fresh fears for her health last week after she was pictured wandering the streets outside her London home in just a bra and jeans – and her mother, Janis, sent an open letter to the troubled singer pleading with her to “pick up the phone” and “come home”.
But Winehouse’s dad, Mitch – who split from Janis when Amy was nine-years-old – claims their daughter has been looking to him for support as she battles a drug addiction, while her husband Blake Fielder-Civil remains imprisoned at a London jail.
“It is absolute rubbish to suggest that no one has been in touch with Amy,” he says. “I’ve seen her five times myself last week. We’re getting sick of the sight of each other, we are seeing each other that much.”
He added: “Amy is monitored all the time. She is with trusted people who care for her and look out for her. We are all encouraging and helping Amy at the minute and that is what is most important.”
Fielder-Civil is being held on charges of conspiracy to pervert the course of justice in relation to an earlier charge of grievous bodily harm.
