Barbra Streisand will be going head to head with Oprah Winfrey as the campaign to find a new US Democratic presidential candidate heats up – the singer is backing the media mogul’s rival.
Just a day after Winfrey announced she’d be joining Barak Obama on the campaign trail next month, Streisand has opted to back former U.S. First Lady Hillary Clinton.
Streisand gave the three leading Democrats, Obama, Clinton and John Edwards, hefty campaign donations last month, but she has now settled on one presidential candidate.
In a statement released on Tuesday, Streisand says: “Hillary Clinton has already proven to a generation of women that there are no limits for success. Hillary is a powerful voice for change as we find our country at an important crossroads. Under her leadership, our country will regain its respect within the global community.”
A fierce opponent of President George W. Bush’s regime, Streisand adds: “After eight long years, the public will once again have faith in their government.”
