Orthodox reggae superstar Matisyahu has raised tens of thousands of dollars for a Jewish center in New York. The performer, who broke through to the mainstream in 2006 after years of cult status, played at New York’s Canal Room to benefit the Chabad Loft.
Tickets cost $150 in advance, while some people also paid $500 to get special VIP seating, as well as some personal time with Matisyahu.
The select gig was the first time he has ever agreed to playing such an event. Meanwhile, for those who wish to catch the man himself in action at more affordable prices along with thousands of others, he is playing at New York’s Hammerstein Ballroom on December 16, 17 and 19, at what is being billed the first annual Festival Of Light.
Special guest Ben Kweller will warm up the crowd on December 17.
