Veteran crooner Neil Diamond will be named MusiCares Person of the Year at the organisation’s 2009 ceremony.
The Sweet Caroline singer is to be lauded for his industry achievements and philanthropy work at a gala dinner and concert held in his honour on 6 February.
Diamond recently donated all profits from tour merchandise sold throughout October to help those left devastated by the effects of Hurricane Ike, which hit parts of the U.S. last month.
John Branca, board chair of the MusiCares Foundation, says, “Neil’s exceptionally versatile and rich body of work, combined with his magnetic performances, are a hallmark of his artistic career.”
