Trumpeter Herb Alpert has donated $30 million to pay for a new music school at the University Of California, Los Angeles.

The music mogul gave the money to the university’s Los Angeles campus via his Herb Alpert Foundation.

The UCLA Herb Alpert School Of Music will combine the existing departments of ethnomusicology, music and musicology in the university’s converted Schoenberg Hall.

In announcing the donation, the 72-year-old says: “The landscape of music has changed so dramatically in the last few years and the ways of making, delivering and sharing music have become so diverse, there needs to be a new approach to music education.”
