Sumner RedstoneViacom boss Sumner Redstone has admitted he has no regrets about ditching Scientologist actor Tom Cruise from his Paramount Pictures company, saying he was “embarrassing the studio”.

In an interview with top magazine Vanity Fair the 83-year-old billionaire – born Sumner Murray Rothstein in Boston – says that his missus, Paula, convinced him to give the star his marching orders.

Paula – who is 40 years his junior, and who married him at Temple El-Emanuel in New York in 2003, told her hubby of the public’s dislike for Cruise. “Paula, like women everywhere, had come to hate him. The truth of the matter is, I did listen to her, but I make business decisions myself.”.

“His behaviour was entirely unacceptable to Paula and to the rest of the world. He just didn’t turn one woman off. He turned off all women, and a lot of men.”

Redstone says he made the decision to give Cruise the boot after his now famous appearance on the Oprah Winfrey show, when he jumped up on the couch to declare his love for girlfriend Katie Holmes.

“He was embarrassing the studio. And he was costing us a lot of money. $100 million, $150 million on

Mission: Impossible III. It was the best picture of the three, and it did the worst. ”
Redstone also reveals in the interview that he swims nude in his indoor pool in Beverly Hills, and shaves in the nude in his hot tub.
