Funnyman Sacha Baron Cohen, who has exceeded all expectations for his recent Borat movie by making over $100m within a month, could be treading the boards if Broadway and West End producers have their way.
A source told Jewtastic that Baron Cohen is top of the list among certain mega producers, who believe an up close and personal one man show by the former Habonim youth club member could be a hit, and want to get out their cheque book to sign him up.
Producers have been impressed by Baron Cohen’s numerous TV appearances to promote Borat and the money he can make. “He’s shown he can perform live, and not just in front of a camera,” said the insider. “People can’t get enough of him on screen, and if Sacha accepts an offer, his Broadway or West End appearance would sell out within minutes.”
A £5m deal plus a percentage of the box office, and full creative control is one offer that will be made to Baron Cohen in the New Year – but would require him to sign up for both West End and Broadway.
One distraction for Baron Cohen would be his numerous film commitments next year, including pre-production work for his character Bruno’s big screen debut, as well as other Hollywood filmmakers looking for a piece of Baron Cohen in their projects.
