Funnyman Sacha Baron Cohen and songstress Amy Winehouse have scooped two of the most prestigious prizes at the South Bank Show Awards in London.
Baron Cohen was recognised in the Best Comedy category for Borat, beating Ricky Gervais’ comedy series Extras, while Winehouse fought off competition from the Arctic Monkeys to win the Pop category.
However, it wasn’t all success for Jewish in the arts. Howard Jacobson lost out in the Literature category to Edward St Aubyn, while Never Mind The Buzzcocks presenter Simon Amstell missed out on the Breakthrough Award, which went to musical newcomers The Archie Bronson Outfit.
The awards ceremony was held at London’s swanky Savoy Hotel and will be shown on ITV1 on Sunday 28 January at 10.45pm
